2017 Lost Corner

2017 Lost Corner

Appellation
Yamhill-Carlton AVA
Varietal
Chardonnay

Lost Corner is sourced from a single one-acre block of Tidalstar Vineyard—the only one planted to Chardonnay. The yield from this block limits production and focuses our winemaking on the nuances of each vintage. With no blending to hide behind, we’re able to create a varietal that is unabashedly terroir-driven and truly unique to the time and place from which it comes.

About the Wine

Great Circle Vineyard BlockIn land surveying, “corners” are natural features or placed markers used to define property lines. Over time, it’s not uncommon for these markers to become lost or destroyed, and restoring them demands great care, ingenuity and sometimes tactful diplomacy on the part of the surveyor.

Just a single one-acre block of Tidalstar Vineyard is planted to Chardonnay. This special corner, lost amidst nearly 30 acres of Pinot Noir, provides optimal sun and soil characteristics for this variety. The yield from this block limits production but also focuses our winemaking on the nuances of each season. With no blending to hide behind, we’re able to create a varietal that is unabashedly terroir-driven and truly unique to the time and place from which it comes.

Tasting Notes
Pleasing aromas of Meyer lemon, orange blossom, cut grass, coconut and wet stone beckon the senses. The entry offers sweet, ripe pear followed by chamomile, green apple and citrus notes. Mouthwatering and crisp, the finish offers poise and balance to this elegant Chardonnay.

Winemaker Notes
The 2017 Lost Corner is sourced from classic 76 and 95 clones from the sole acre of Chardonnay on the Tidalstar Vineyard. The fruit was pressed in a manner to specifically protect the delicate aromas. We barreled the juice after 24 hours, bringing only soft lees which helped add richness and texture throughout the fermentation process. Fermentation occurred in Acaia puncheons and French oak barrels. We stirred select barrels throughout primary and the secondary malolactic fermentation. After blending, it was aged on light lees in stainless steel for 6 months prior to bottling.
